Botox/Dysport

All Things Botox/Dysport

Say goodbye to wrinkles!

Botox and Dysport work by blocking the nerve impulses that tell a muscle to contract, and the more that is injected, the less the muscles are able to move. I place the product into specific areas on the face that affect the muscles causing wrinkles to form. The three most common areas for Botox injections are between the eyebrows, the forehead and next to the eyes, where "crow's feet" form. If you habitually scowl or make another expression that is causing expression lines, consider Botox to retrain your muscles starting even in your 20s.

These aren't the only areas that Botox and Dysport can treat, they are just the most common. Other examples are listed below. We can be a little creative with this product and your face, but remember: these products only affect muscles. Wrinkles that are not a result of facial muscle contraction, bags under the eyes, etc. cannot be treated by Botox or Dysport; dermal fillers may be the correct application. Schedule a consultation to discuss your options and develop a treatment plan.

Botox

This product, made by Allergan, is the most popular form of botulinum toxin available on the market. It has been FDA approved for use in the forehead, glabellar lines, and to treat “crowsfeet”. There are several other off-label areas that are safe and effective as well.

Botox injections usually start to show affect around 7 days after injection, and typically last around three months. After your initial treatment, you’ll be asked to return for a follow-up appointment in approximately 10-14 days. After that, your next treatment can be scheduled for 3 months later, or whenever your wrinkles begin to form again.

The cost for Botox is $11 per unit.

Dysport

This product, made by Ipsen, is a newer form of botulinum toxin to hit the market. Most clients tend to report that Dysport takes effect sooner (sometimes within 48-72 hours). Dysport requires nearly twice the amount of units as Botox, but is priced about half as well.

Dyport injections also last around three months until a subsequent injection appointment is required. After your initial treatment, you’ll be asked to return for a follow-up appointment in approximately 7-10 days. After that, your next treatment can be scheduled for 3 months later, or whenever your wrinkles begin to form again.

The cost for Dysport is $5 per unit.
